In the local congregations of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, women’s missionary groups had been formed as early as 1919 by the founder, Bishop R.C. Lawson, as he was directed by the Holy Ghost. However, it was not until September 8, 1923 in New York City, New York that the National Missionary Department was organized by the Executive Board of the National Convocation of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc.
The Women’s Missionary Department was created to aid the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ (COOLJC) as a living body of Christ to carry out the acts of the saints in the beginning of the Biblical Apostolic Church; to give the missionary women an opportunity to be helpers together with the ministers and pastors in bringing souls to Christ; to be a comfort to those in need; to visit the orphans, the sick, and the widows; to give godly counsel in the fear of God; and to support the missionaries who have proven themselves worthy in obedience, are true to Christ and the Church and are sent out by the Executive Board at the general session of the National Convocation.
